Finding Psoriasis Treatments at HomePsoriasis

Psoriasis is a complex, reoccurring autoimmune disorder characterized by red, flaky patches on the skin. Even though there is no cure, many treatments exist to ease the symptoms. Some aren't far away from your computer screen.
Here are some pictures of psoriasis andseven simple treatments to help quiet its signs.

In the Medicine Cabinet

Dietary supplements may help ease psoriasis symptoms from the inside. Fish oil, vitamin D, milk thistle, and evening primrose oil have been reported to help some sufferers (NPF, 2012). It's important to only take supplements that do not interfere with other pre-existing conditions or have harmful side effects. Fish oil applied directly to the skin has also been known to work well for some.

Moisture Everywhere

Use a humidifier to keep the air in your home or office moist. It can prevent dry skin before it starts. Sensitive-skin moisturizers are also great at keeping your skin supple and from forming plaques.

No Dyes or Perfumes

Most soaps and perfumes have dyes and fragrances in them. Sure, they can make you smell great but they also can inflame psoriasis. Choose products labeled as "sensitive skin" – these are made without the dyes and perfumes that can irritate skin (NPF, 2012).

From the Kitchen, Part 1

Diet may play a role in managing psoriasis. Eliminating red meat and fatty foods have been effective for some. The National Psoriasis Foundation lists soy, nuts, chocolate, and cranberries as a few "functional foods" for treatment (NPF, 2012).

From the Kitchen, Part 2

As healthy as olive oil is inside your body, it can have extra benefits for the skin. Applying olive or vegetable oil to scales and patches of psoriasis can lock moisture and nutrients in. Try massaging a few tablespoons on your scalp to help loosen troublesome plaques during your next shower.

In the Bathtub

Your dermatologist will tell you hot water is your skin's enemy, but a lukewarm bath with Epsom salt, mineral oil, milk, or olive oil can soothe the itching and infiltrate scales and plaques. Moisturize immediately after your bath for double benefits (Mayo Clinic, 2011).

No One Answer

Unfortunately, there is no one single answer to stop psoriasis. What's worse is the fact that not everything works for everyone. Using some of the tips shown here, as well as using other treatment options, you can custom-tailor your daily routine to keep problem itching and flaking to a minimum.

Dog Owners Will Understand (20 Pics)

If you own a dog, then you can definitely relate to these photos…

The Solway Firth Photo, 1964 (Spaceman)

The Solway Firth Photo, 1964 (Spaceman)
Solway Firth
On 24th May 1964, Jim Templeton, a fireman from Carlisle in the North of England, took his young daughter out to the marches overlooking the Solway Firth to take some photographs. Nothing untoward happened, although both he and his wife noticed an unusual aura in the atmosphere. There was a kind of electric charge in the air, though no storm came. Even nearby cows seemed upset by it.
Some days later Mr Templeton got his photographs processed by the chemist, who said that it was a pity that the man who had walked past had spoilt the best shot of Elizabeth holding a bunch of flowers. Jim was puzzled. There had been nobody else on the marshes nearby at the time.
But sure enough, on the picture in question there was a figure in a silvery white space suit projecting at an odd angle into the air behind the girl's back, as if an unwanted snooper had wrecked the shot.
The case was reported to the police and taken up by Kodak, the film manufacturers, who offered free film for life to anyone who could solve the mystery when their experts failed.
It was not, as the police at first guessed, a simple double exposure with one negative accidentally printed on top of another during processing. It was, as Chief Superintendent Oldcorn quickly concluded, just "one of those things... a freak picture."
A few weeks later Jim Templeton received two mysterious visitors. He had never heard of MIBs: the subject was almost unknown in Britain then. But the two men who came to his house in a large Jaguar car wore dark suits and otherwise looked normal. The weird thing about them was their behavior.
They only referred to one another by numbers and asked the most unusual questions as they drove Jim out to the marshes. They wanted to know in minute detail about the weather on the day of the photograph, the activities of local bird life and odd asides like that.
Then they tried to make him admit that he had just photographed an ordinary man walking past. Jim responded politely, but nevertheless rejected their idea, at which they became irrationally angry and hustled themselves into the car, driving off and leaving him. The fire officer had to hike five miles across country to get home.

Yahoo editors have selected this video as a favorite of 2013. This viral clip from June was one of the top-performers of the year, garnering millions of views and hundreds of comments. In it, a group of taunting children learned first-hand that a gorilla can stand being called "ugly" just so many times, hand after an insulted primate got its revenge by scaring the pants off the kids. In the short video the kids can be seen pounding on the gorilla’s glass cage and insulting its appearance. After giving the kids its best 1,000-yard stare, the gorilla leaps toward the glass, giving the kids an epic scare. The gorilla then walks off, showing its hairy derriere to the kids. Energy drinks have become both polarizing and ubiquitous in the past decade.
Energy drinks have become both polarizing and ubiquitous in the past decade. Some people swear by those quirky coffee substitutes that come cold, carbonated, and in a variety of colorful containers and fruity flavors, but others reject them because they're skeptical about their safety. So whose school of thought is correct?
Studies have long suggested that too many stimulants are toxic for your body, as they contribute to an array of ailments ranging from headaches and insomnia to heartburn and heart attacks. And, with so many mysterious ingredients mixed into each brand’s energy-generating elixir — including gnarly sounding names like L-phenylalanine, inositol and citicoline — and minimal research to prove whether these chemicals are, indeed, fit for human consumption in large amounts, you have to wonder what scientists will learn about the effects of energy drinks down the line. [slideshow:786279]
In the meantime, we’ve identified a collection of concoctions that could pose a threat to consumers who don’t pay attention to nutritional labels and serving size. Some of these beverages come with numerous servings per can/bottle/shot, meaning they’re not meant to be guzzled down like you’re funneling booze on Spring Break, while others are notorious for being laden with the sweet stuff.
Like most things, energy drinks are best in moderation, but if you’re a habitual user, this slideshow might motivate you to slow things down a bit. Here’s to your health.
