Have you seen the newly dug up, black-and-white photo of a pre-Prince Charles Diana Spencer on its way to auction?

It's perhaps the most candid shot of the eventual princess we've ever seen — and arguably one of the most beautiful.

Aged 18 or 19, she's reclining inside a wood-paneled room on the lap of Adam Russell, the great-grandson of former prime minister Stanley Baldwin, during a Swiss ski vacation. There's a bottle of booze on the window ledge, and Russell is reading from a book balanced on her sweatered shoulder.

They almost look like a couple of average teenagers in love (or at least strong like).

Diana, of course, became the People's Princess; Russell became a deer farmer in Dorset, England.

Diana's biographer Andrew Morton told Britain's The Guardian that Diana and Russell were "injured during the skiing holiday ... They kept each other company while the others went skiing, and, at the end of the holiday, Adam was somewhat smitten. But absolutely nothing happened." Hmm.

The picture is estimated to go for at least $1,200 at RR Auctions in New Hampshire.
