Studies have long suggested that too many stimulants are toxic for your body, as they contribute to an array of ailments ranging from headaches and insomnia to heartburn and heart attacks. And, with so many mysterious ingredients mixed into each brand’s energy-generating elixir — including gnarly sounding names like L-phenylalanine, inositol and citicoline — and minimal research to prove whether these chemicals are, indeed, fit for human consumption in large amounts, you have to wonder what scientists will learn about the effects of energy drinks down the line.
